I am a freelance photographer and videographer from Cape Town currently living in Johannesburg and attending the Photojournalism and Documentary Photography Programme at the Market Photo Workshop. From the moment I arrived in early 2019, I’ve been blown away by the culture, diversity and energy of Johannesburg, particularly the inner city. Downtown Joburg has dazzled me, terrified me, amazed me, and hypnotised me. Like so many others from South Africa, and the rest of the continent I’ve felt its irresistible pull. This blog is an attempt at sharing some of the essence of this special place. For those who have never visited, I hope it will serve as a window into its soul, and for those who know it well, I hope it reflects it in an honest way, and perhaps provides you with new insights into the city that you perhaps hadn’t had before.
